The effects of trauma have a strong, long-lasting influence on our relationships and communities. But how can an average person support those who experienced trauma, even just as a friend, neighbor, or volunteer? It might feel easier to ignore the trauma, but that can be a disservice to ourselves and to others. On the other hand, it may be tempting to try to “fix” the trauma, which is also not helpful. How do we walk the line between ignoring trauma and thinking that the effects of trauma are easily solved?

In this workshop, Rob Fennimore will present a basic, asset-based model for working with and supporting those who have experienced trauma. An asset-based approach emphasizes the strengths of an individual, instead of dwelling directly on traumatic events. It allows us to acknowledge the influence of a traumatic event and continue to move forward. Finally, this approach will explore a physiological understanding of trauma’s influence on the mind and the body.

We have all experienced, or know people who have experienced, trauma. This workshop will give you the foundation to understand their situation and to help them on their journey.

PRC volunteers are especially encouraged to attend, and can register for free by contacting PRC.
