Volunteers are integral to the services provided by most non-profits, and expand the good impact in our community. Come volunteer with us at one of several local organizations who are working to fight food insecurity. Each organization has different tasks available at different times of day, so please read the descriptions carefully. Choose the opportunity that is the best fit for you by registering with their ‘ticket’. And remember, if you sign up, they are counting on your excellent help for the full shift!
Anchor Lancaster serves a free breakfast as part of the Lancaster Community Meal Program, and provides a shower every weekday morning. They operate out of First United Methodist Church at 29 E Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Volunteers will help with some basic meal prep, serving food on the buffet line, and clean-up afterwards. Please arrive at 7:45am. Your shift will end at 10am. Anchor Lancaster has a parking lot.
Lancaster County Food Hub provides food, clothing, and shelter for neighbors in need. Their location at 812 N Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603 contains a food pantry, clothing bank, and day shelter. The shift will be from 1-3:30pm. Volunteers may be assigned to the clothing area or to the food area. Tasks include sorting and hanging clothing, stocking food, packing food boxes, and helping clients load items into their vehicles. The Food Hub has limited parking in their parking lot so street parking or carpooling is encouraged.
St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Catholic Church serves a brown bag lunch every weekday as part of the Lancaster Community Meal Program. They are located at 929 N Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Volunteers will help make sandwiches, pack lunch bags, and serve bags to guests. The shift is 10:30am-1pm. A parking lot is available.
St. John’s Episcopal Church runs a food pantry offering pantry staples such as cereal, pasta, peanut butter, and canned goods. They are located at 321 West Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. The shift is 10am-noon. Although the pantry is not open to clients on June 19, volunteers will help do a deep clean of the space (wiping shelves, defrosting fridge, etc.) and pack food boxes for their distributions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The church parking lot is accessible from Mulberry St.
