Our homes contain physical spaces designed for cooking, eating, sleeping, and washing. However, most of our homes are not designed with built-in contemplative spaces. And most of us do not have the luxury of time for extensive contemplative practices nor the economic resources to renovate a room.

Many of us find sacred spaces outdoors and in nature, but as winter weather pushes us indoors, we tend to seek spaces that support our desire for rest and quietude. Meaningful physical space, symbols, and rituals can assist with focus and grounding our winter spiritual practices.

What, then, defines a sacred space, and how do we create that space?

This retreat will identify contemplative spaces that already are there in both our physical and internal spheres. We will notice synergy between our physical spaces, our desires and longings, and our connection with the Divine.  We will consider ways to hold space and carry forth a spirit that will sustain us personally and encourage those we encounter through the upcoming cold and dark months.
