Providing and receiving care – in our families, professions, congregations, communities – can represent some of the most meaningful experiences in our lives, and healthy boundaries are a necessary component. Healthy boundaries define the realm of the relationship, while maintaining the clear space between where you begin and the other person ends. Boundaries allow us to give easily and compassionately, because once we define our limits, we can move freely within them. Poor boundaries can lead to anger, hurt, resentment, and burnout. Clearly communicated boundaries build trust and promote healthy, sustainable relationships.
In this two-part workshop, Lesley will help attendees identify ways to align their boundaries with their values. Learn strategies to communicate boundaries that will increase the ease and effectiveness of caregiving, as well as identify internalized messages that may increase vulnerability to burnout. The first session will be an introduction to the ideas and strategies of boundaries, and the second session will act as a launchpad to build on these ideas and implement compassionate care in your life.
By the end of the sessions, you will walk away understanding ways to set boundaries that align with your values, communicate those boundaries gently and effectively, and support your own emotional life in the presence of others’ suffering.
These workshops will include lecture, reflection questions, hands-on practices, and small group discussions. PRC volunteers are especially encouraged to attend, and can register for free by contacting PRC.
